A Letter from Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert - My Response

I wrote and sent the following letter in response to the one I received from Speaker Hastert's office, but unfortunately, I never heard back from him.

April 3, 2005

Dear Congressman Hastert,

. . .

I have tried to contact your office several times. I did receive a three-page letter from your office, but that wasn’t exactly the type of response that I had in mind. I know that you are an extremely busy person, and you are probably inundated with ideas, criticism, and questions concerning the Social Security issue. All I desire is an opportunity to explain my ideas.

. . .

I do not expect you to embrace my plan. However, I would appreciate it if you could assist me in sharing my ideas with a larger audience such as the local newspaper. I would be thrilled if you would only say something to the effect of, “I have reviewed this proposal, and I think that it deserves further consideration.” That is all I need. I know that you have different ideas about how to strengthen Social Security, and I do not expect you to give me your support or approval. However, I possess an unwavering determination, and I will not rest until the American people receive an opportunity to hear my proposal. I can only hope that you will help me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I will also fax you another copy of my plan. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions that you may have. Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Adam Florzak
